Why does a colour print discolour?
Various factors can make a print discolour. Chemical or water damage, poor processing when the print was made, exposure to heat or sustained or strong sunlight. Older colour prints were produced with less stable processes and could discolour showing a colour cast quite quickly. Since the mid 1980′s however techniques improved and prints made after that period, especially after 1990, last much better. Our prints are rated to last without discolouring or fading for 100 years.
Can you repair a discoloured photograph?
It is possible to correct a discoloured photo completely. Even where the colour cast is extremely strong a complete restoration is usually possible, bringing the photo back to life.
If the original colour can’t be brought back, alternatives are to make the print a black and white, sepia or hand-tint.
