fading
What causes photos to fade?
Contaminants in the air and sunlight are the main causes of fading in photographs. Any colour picture taken before 1990 will have been produced using dyes that deteriorate significantly over time. Since then, kept in average conditions, prints should last really well (up to 100 years for our prints).
Can you repair faded photos?
Fortunately it is usually possible to repair fading photos to their original clarity. even where there is apparently very little detail left to work with, remarkable results can be achieved.
Avoid copy prints made on computer printer paper, as these fade even faster than old color photos and are unusually sensitive to water!
